An ad for online dating site eHarmony has been banned by watchdogs because love can’t be “scientifically proven. The London Underground billboard suggested singles would have a much better a chance of finding lasting romance if they used the service. But its claim to have a “scientifically proven matching system” was misleading, ruled the Advertising Standards Authority ASA. The ASA said: “We told eHarmony to remove the claim ‘scientifically proven matching system’ and not to use similar claims with the same meaning, unless they had adequate evidence their website offered users a significantly greater chance of finding lasting love than what could be achieved if they didn’t use the service.

It comes after fears were raised about an influx of people travelling to the Lincolnshire coast. Butlin’s has announced it is extending the closure period for its sites across the UK – despite some restrictions easing during the coronavirus pandemic. And the popular holiday resort in Skegness, where many Nottinghamshire holidaymakers visit, will remain closed until at least July 2. This is the third time the closure period has been extended since it first shut its doors back in March, Lincolnshire Live reports.
People are now able to travel to other areas of England, including beaches, for exercise, while sitting in public areas has also been given the green light by Boris Johnson. But Butlin’s said it hopes to open its Skegness resort as well as other sites again “in the not too distant future”.

Traders in Skegness say that despite the opening of more shops in the town this week, life will not begin to return to normal until major attractions reopen. Non-essential retailers such as clothes shops and gift shops were allowed to reopen by the Government on Monday, June 15, as it continues to loosen lockdown restrictions. However, businesses that have reopened over the last week in the town say they have not seen much of an increase in footfall after reopening.
Many shops in the town, which is particularly reliant on tourism, say they feel things will not get better until caravan sites and Butlin’s reopen. It is unclear at this time when this is likely to happen, with Butlin’s saying it will remain closed until at least July 16, while caravan sites have been given a prospective opening date of July 4, but this is not set in stone. Peter Kilner, who runs Spalls of Skegness with his wife Sharon, said a combination of the weather and lack of holiday-makers was making business particularly tough.
